It allows a business to create and run a virtual machine, which is a software version of a computer, with each virtual machine functioning as a full computer, complete with its own operating system and software. Virtual machines provide more flexibility, save time and money, and use hardware far more efficiently than running a single operating system directly on physical hardware.
Each virtual machine in Hyper-V runs in its own isolated environment, allowing several virtual machines to run on the same physical hardware. A business in Dubai may want to do this to avoid problems such as a crash affecting other workloads, or to grant access to different systems to different people, teams, or services without interference between them.

Hyper-V replaced earlier Microsoft hardware virtualization products, including Microsoft Virtual PC, Microsoft Virtual Server, and Windows Virtual PC, across Windows and Windows Server. Hyper-V provides networking, performance, storage, and security capabilities that those older tools lacked.
Most third-party virtualization software requiring the same processor features is incompatible with Hyper-V running simultaneously, since these hardware virtualization extensions are not designed to be shared between hypervisors. Hyper-V, Device Guard, and Credential Guard also do not interoperate directly with certain other virtualization applications running on the same host.
Hyper-V is available as a server role on x64 versions of Windows Server, and as a feature on various 64-bit versions of the Windows client operating system. Microsoft discontinued the free, standalone Microsoft Hyper-V Server product after the 2019 release, and no standalone Hyper-V Server edition was produced for Windows Server 2022 or Windows Server 2025. Extended support for Hyper-V Server 2019 runs until January 2029, but Techbee recommends new deployments in Dubai plan around currently supported options instead.
Today, the Hyper-V role ships as part of the licensed Windows Server operating system, including the current Windows Server 2025 release, which added GPU partitioning for sharing GPUs across virtual machines, support for up to 4 petabytes of memory and 2,048 logical processors per host, and workgroup clusters that do not require an Active Directory domain. For hyperconverged infrastructure scenarios, Microsoft’s current recommended path is Azure Local, formerly known as Azure Stack HCI, which brings Hyper-V-based virtualization together with cloud-based deployment, monitoring, and management.
Hyper-V virtual machines can run a variety of operating systems. In general, a Hyper-V VM runs an x86-architecture-based operating system, though Microsoft tests and officially supports only specific versions.
Hyper-V is a hypervisor-based virtualization technology built on the Windows hypervisor, which requires a physical CPU with specific hardware virtualization capabilities. In most configurations, the hypervisor manages all interactions between the physical hardware and the virtual machines, and this hypervisor-controlled access to hardware is what gives each VM its isolated operating environment. In some configurations, a virtual machine or its guest operating system is granted more direct access to graphics, networking, or storage hardware for performance reasons.
Hyper-V requires several components working together to generate and run virtual machines, collectively referred to as the virtualization platform. These components are installed together as part of the Hyper-V role, including the Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management Service, the virtualization WMI provider, the virtual machine bus (VMbus), the virtualization service provider (VSP), and the virtual infrastructure driver (VID).
Hyper-V also includes management and connectivity tools, which can be installed either on the same computer as the Hyper-V role or on a separate computer without the role installed:

Hyper-V licensing in Dubai is tied to the underlying Windows Server edition (Standard or Datacenter), since the free standalone Hyper-V Server product is no longer available.
